Despite its name, the New Zealand spinach is not a true spinach. The New Zealand Spinach is a leafy green with leaves that are thicker and more succulent, which gained it its name of ice plant. This variety was discovered by the British in New Zealand, hence the name!

Although they are not related to true spinaches, New Zealand spinach greens can be enjoyed fresh or cooked the same way. The microgreens are rich in Vitamin C, which is essential for a healthy immune system and also helps boost iron levels for optimal health.

Since the New Zealand Spinach is not a true spinach, the seedlings are more heat tolerant and suitable for growing in Singapore's climate. The microgreens can be harvested in 12-14 days, although we prefer sowing them slightly wider apart and growing them as baby leaves to be harvested in 21 days.
